Is Mint Oil The Holy Irritable Bowel Syndrome Treatment?
Only a small amount of peppermint oil (mint oil) can reduce irritable bowel syndromes. The oil relaxes the muscles in the colon, prevents cramps and pain that afflicts people suffering from this syndrome.
It can also help with constipation, a common symptom of the syndrome, by tightening muscle contractions so that waste is expelled through the intestines. Recent research shows that mint capsules effectively reduce pain in children with Irritable bowel syndrome.
Dosage: Take coated capsules containing 0.2 ml of peppermint oil–one at dinner and another at bedtime. The coated capsules remain intact until they reach the intestines, where they alleviate IBS symptoms.
In some people, peppermint oil can cause stomach acid (if this happens, take it before dinner). Please do not take it during pregnancy and lactation without consulting a doctor.
